Iran Says US-Israeli Strikes Killed 345 Students, Teachers

(MENAFN) At least 345 members of Iran's education sector — including 278 students and 67 teachers — have lost their lives since US-Israeli airstrikes began on Feb. 28, Iran's Education Ministry confirmed.

An Iranian state broadcaster, cited the ministry in reporting the toll, adding that a further 196 students and 26 education staff sustained injuries in the strikes. The assault has left a sweeping trail of destruction across Iran's academic infrastructure: 933 schools, 54 administrative facilities, 17 cultural centers, 36 sports halls, and eight student camps have been either damaged or destroyed.

The education casualties form part of a broader, escalating death toll. More than 3,300 people across Iran have now been killed since the strikes commenced over six weeks ago. In response, Tehran launched retaliatory attacks targeting Israel, Iraq, Jordan, and Gulf states hosting US military installations — before a two-week ceasefire was declared on Tuesday.

Diplomatic efforts have yet to yield a breakthrough. Delegations from Iran and the United States wrapped up a grueling 21-hour round of negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan, early Sunday — concluding without an agreement.
