UAE-Supported Mass Wedding Brings Hope to Gaza

(MENAFN) The city of Khan Younis in southern Gaza witnessed a collective wedding celebration on Tuesday, uniting 54 couples in nuptial ceremonies supported by Abu Dhabi. The event was part of activities commemorating the UAE’s 54th Union Day.

The gathering took place amidst the rubble of the Hamad residential area, which had been destroyed, and was organized under the UAE’s “Gallant Knight 3” humanitarian initiative, according to a reporter.

A wedding platform, named “Thawb al-Farah” (gown of joy), was set up to represent resilience and the determination to continue life despite the destruction wrought by Israel’s genocide.
The venue was adorned with Palestinian flags, flowers, and traditional music as families and community leaders observed the procession of the newlyweds.

Organizers noted that the couples were selected through a lottery system, which included approximately 2,651 applicants from throughout the Gaza Strip.

The “Gallant Knight 3” operation, launched on Nov. 5, 2023, under the guidance of UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed, aims to provide food and medical assistance to Gaza’s most severely affected regions.

Although a ceasefire was enacted on Oct. 10, Israel continued to breach the truce, targeting Palestinians outside the agreed withdrawal zones, resulting in deaths and injuries.

Since October 2023, the Israeli military has killed over 70,000 people in Gaza, predominantly women and children, and injured more than 171,000, leaving large parts of the enclave in devastation.
