Spain Summons Israeli Diplomat

(MENAFN) The Spanish Foreign Ministry on Tuesday called in Israel’s charge d’affaires following accusations from the Israeli foreign minister labeling Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez as “antisemite.”

Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares summoned Israeli Charge d'Affaires in Spain Dana Erlich to convey his disapproval of what he described as "unacceptable words and positions" from his Israeli counterpart, according to sources cited by a public broadcaster.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar had posted on US social media platform X on Monday, calling Sanchez an "antisemite" and "liar."

"Sanchez and his Communist government are antisemites and enemies of the truth," Saar wrote in his post.

The remarks followed Sanchez’s call for Israel to be excluded from international sports events until its "barbarity ends."

"Why was Russia expelled after the invasion of Ukraine and Israel is not expelled after the invasion of Gaza?" Sanchez questioned.
